Verstappen points out crucial factor: 'You have to be confident'
- Savannah Lenz
During the 2023 Formula 1 season, Max Verstappen did not have much direct competition. But in 2024, things heated up. While competing for his fourth world championship title, the pressure was on him. However, he did not break. And he now reveals how he managed to do that.
Verstappen points to experience
When asked about how he handles the pressure when he does not have a dominant car, Verstappen replied that he relies on the experience he already has.
"I think experience helps with that," he explained during a Team Redline live stream on Twitch. "Because of course you have these kind of moments already from go-karting where you're defending on the last lap, and the pressure is the same because you want to win the race. At the end of the day you have to be confident in your ability of what you have to do. I mean I've practiced a lot when I was a kid, as well, with my dad and my teammates and friends in these kind of situations.”
During that same Twitch livestream, Verstappen was sim racing the virtual 24 hours of Daytona. It did not go well for him or Team Redline given the numerous incidents that were involved in during the race, however.
