Sainz already proposes change to Albon at Williams: 'We need the upgrade'
- Estéban den Toom
Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon are already warming up to each other before the 2025 Formula 1 season starts. The pair are racing for Williams, who has already given the duo a name. However, the two have decided to put their own spin on their nickname.
After Lewis Hamilton took Sainz's place at Ferrari, the Spaniard had to begin looking for a new team. In the end, James Vowles' and Williams managed to win the Spaniard over. Now, the team is testing in Barcelona where the two drivers made changes to their nickname.
After much fanfare and debate, Williams finally held a vote and coined the nickname 'Carbon'. After winning against the name 'Bonsai', Williams decided to name fans of the duo, Carbonaras. However, Sainz and Albon decided to give it a little tweak in a video shared by Williams on social media. Sainz and Albon fixed the name to their liking.
This will be Albon and Sainz's new name!
"Carbono is the upgrade we need," Sainz explained in a Williams-created video. A variation on a certain pasta dish from Italy has not quite become it for the driver pair, Sainz explained. "Carbonara is cool, but it is too much... too funny. We need something serious and aggressive I think. Do you agree?" the Spaniard asked Albon, who nodded in agreement. "Fans, agree? We switch [to] Carbono! Three, two, one... Carbono!" the 30-year-old Formula 1 driver concluded.
