Andrea Kimi Antonelli is often viewed as the next big talent. In fact, some think he could be the next Max Verstappen, who similarly joined the competition as a teenager. In 2025, the young Italian is set for his debut year in F1, and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff he can't wait to finally see Antonelli in action.

In September, just after his 18th birthday, Mercedes announced that Antonelli would be making his Formula 1 debut with the team in 2025. The Italian has a considerable challenge ahead of him, as he is set to replace Lewis Hamilton as the team's next full-time driver, although this season will be one for him when he can settle in at the German side.

Wolff has done multiple things to keep the pressure off of the young driver as his goal is to get Antonelli ready for 2026 instead of aiming for him to be good this upcoming season. During the 2026 season, the new regulations will be introduced and Antonelli will be more comfortable within the team.

Wolff enthusiastic about Antonelli

Meanwhile, preparations for the new season are in full swing. Speaking to Motorsport, Wolff said, "They [the preparations] are going well. We have known him [Antonelli] since he was 11. He has integrated well into the team, and we have tested a lot with him. We can't wait to see him in the car."

While Russell went to Williams Racing before heading to Mercedes, Antonelli immediately made the jump to the German team. Wolff has shown a lot of support for Antonelli as he hopes to nurture him into the next world champion. Antonelli and Wolff have known each other for a few years, and Wolff has previously said that he believes Antonelli has what it takes to earn a title one day.
