Max Verstappen has reached a very special milestone in Formula 1. Since 14 February, the Red Bull Racing driver has led the F1 championship for a thousand consecutive days, leaving big names like Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna far behind.
Verstappen leads F1 championship 1,000 days
Verstappen not only leads the championship for more than a thousand days, the Dutchman managed to take no fewer than 40 victories in that time period. No other driver managed more than four victories in the last thousand days. Next on the list is Michael Schumacher, who led the championship for 896 days and 630 days consecutively, respectively. He did so from 2000 to 2003 and from 2003 to 2005.
Schumacher could have led the F1 championship for over 1,500 consecutive days if his winning streak was not interrupted. McLaren started the 2003 season strongly with wins by David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen, allowing the Finn to take the championship lead. The German managed to recover with Ferrari and retook the lead midway through the season, not to relinquish it again until early 2005.
After Schumacher, come three more big names who held the championship lead for a long time: Ayrton Senna with 581 days (1990-1992), Alberto Ascari with 574 days (1952-1954) and Fernando Alonso with 560 days (2005-2006).
