Formula One statement after team radios during Chinese Grand Prix
"There was absolutely no intention of presenting a misleading narrative regarding the Ferrari team radio. Due to other situations developing during the race, the message from Lewis was not played but this was not intentional," an F1 spokesperson confirmed to GPblog.
Vasseur explained what happened after the Grand Prix
Hamilton initially seemed unhappy with Ferrari's team order to let Leclerc pass, but afterwards team boss Frédéric Vasseur indicated that the idea came from Hamilton himself. "Not really, because the first call came from Lewis. He proposed to swap. You have to listen to the full story. Lewis proposed to swap, and then he picked up a little bit the pace, and he swapped, and it's not an issue at all," Vasseur explained after the race to Viaplay.
The position change did not matter in terms of the result, as both drivers were disqualified for different reasons. The Monegasque driver's car was under the minimum weight, while Hamilton's skid wear was more than what's requiered at three measure points.
