Oliver Rowland has won the second Jeddah ePrix of the weekend. The Nissan driver did well throughout the ePrix, and ended up confidently winning the race after finished second a day before. The Briton as a result could also extend his lead in the drivers' standings after Antonio Felix da Costa and Maximilian Günther failed to score points. Taylor Barnard and Jake Hughes completed the podium in Saudi Arabia.
As it happened
It was another chaotic start in Saudi Arabia. First, some cars struggled to get into their correct starting positions. In this competition, there is no formation lap, but drivers instead move up the grid a couple of positions before parking their cars in the appropriate positions. Yesterday's winner, Günther was a bit too ambitious into Turn 4 on Lap 1, and collided with Antonio Felix da Costa. Both drivers had to retire from the ePrix by the third lap.
Starting from pole position, Barnard could keep the lead, and Hughes got up to P2. By Lap 6 however, the Maserati driver fell down to P6, with Lucas di Grassi putting pressure on Barnard at the front. On Lap 7, Rowland could take the lead from the NEOM McLaren driver, and Barnard then lost further two positions to two former F1 drivers, Jean-Eric Vergne and Pascal Wehrlein.
On Lap 12, Robin Frijns decided to use the attack mode, and decided to get past Rowland to take the lead with his Envision Racing car. Three laps later, the Briton also collected his first attack mode, and re-claimed the lead from the Dutchman. On Lap 16, Barnard and Vergne also claimed their first attack modes as well, so they can catch up to Nissan driver. The two then traded positions at the lead.
On Lap 24, Jake Dennis collected his final attack mode, and overtook Barnard and Nick Cassidy. Rowland responded to that with claiming a six-minute attack mode himself, and a couple of laps later, pole sitter Barnard did the same. On the final lap, Hughes had a hard-fought battle against Barnard, but the Maserati driver remained in P3, just ahead of Dennis.
