McLaren is unanimously the favorite to take both world titles in 2025, and the first day of winter testing at Bahrain has seen them top the time sheets with Lando Norris. Team boss, Andrea Stella has spoken about the way Wednesday went for the Woking-based team.
In a press release issued by McLaren, the Italian team boss summed up the first day of testing for the papaya outfit. "A productive first day for the MCL39 in official testing. The team and drivers did a good job to work through a busy run plan, and we end the day with much more information."
McLaren are narrowing down on the MCL39's base setup
While Lando Norris was able to climb to the top of the times with particular ease, his Australian teammate, Oscar Piastri's work was centered around different aspects during the morning session. "Oscar focused largely on aero tests this morning and we then developed on our base set up with Lando this afternoon, making further changes."
While the conditions that the F1 paddock encountered at the Bahrain International circuit were not optimal, McLaren were able to make the most of the day and now look onward to tomorrow. "Conditions today were cooler than normal and also windy, which created some challenges around the track for everyone. Nevertheless, thanks to the efforts of the team at track and back in the UK, we have gathered a lot of important data we can build on tomorrow," concluded Stella.
