Antonio Perez Garibay is making headlines, and once again it's for his predictions regarding his son, Sergio Perez, and the latter's potential comeback to F1, which, according to Perez Garibay will only happen for one reason, to see Perez Jr. become world champion.

As the 2024 ended, so did Sergio Perez' tenure at Red Bull Racing expire. Why? His lacklustre perfomances which heavily impacted the Austrian team's hopes to clinch its third Constructors' title on the trot. With the Mexican driver being replaced by Liam Lawson as of this year, Perez Jr. has often been linked to a return to F1, primarily by Mexican outlets, who seem to believe there could be a seat lined up for the now Red Bull ambassador in the recently confirmed Cadillac team.

Speaking prior to a Mexican football match between Cruz Azul and Rayados de Monterrey, Perez Garibay took time to address the theories surrounding his son's potential return to F1 with Cadillac. "What Sergio is cooking up is something very big for the Mexican fans, they will be very happy, very proud, we hope that all this will last for many more years.”

For Perez it's being a World Champion or nothing

"Sergio is only looking forward to getting back, to become champion, that is the only thing that's missing". Perez Garibay then elaborated further. "In other words, he would have nothing else to return to Formula 1 for, if not to become world champion. He is F1's world runner-up, something we have never had in Mexico."

According to Sergio Perez' father, the former Red Bull driver could have been on the grid this year, but the offers his father alleges to have been issued to the Mexican driver were not up to his standards. "He had opportunities and open doors with other teams to stay this year, but the level he wants to be at was not good. He deserves to be fighting at the front,” Perez Garibay concluded.
