The Formula 1 winter break is finally over, and with that, the official start of the 2025 Formula 1 season. At the end of this week, we will know the very first race winner of the new season, but until then, the teams will be preparing for the time differences, hot temperatures and leadership changes.
What can you expect from the Australian Grand Prix?
The first thing to expect is early alarms. With the race taking place in Australia, many fans will have to get up several hours early to catch the sessions. For example, the first free practice session will happen on Friday morning at 01:30 - 02:30. The race itself will land at 4 a.m. on Sunday. For the full schedule, check here.
Another thing to expect is hot weather surrounding the track. On Saturday, the temperature is expected to hit upwards of 37 degrees. On race day, however, things are supposed to be significantly cooler, hanging around the 26-degree mark. This could be because rain is expected. Read the full weather report here.
Racing Bulls shake up its leadership
There are only four days until the first free practice session of the 2025 Formula 1 season and Racing Bulls has had a change in leadership. Jody Egginton had left Racing Bulls to join Red Bull Advanced Technologies as Engineering Director. Egginton had worked within Formula 1 for over 20 years and was with Racing Bulls for over 10 years. Three people will take over his job: Chief Technical Officer Tim Goss and Deputy Technical Directors, Guillaume Cattelani (Car Performance) and Andrea Landi (Car Design).
Team Principal, Laurent Mekies said, “As our long-serving Technical Director, he has been instrumental in driving innovation and fostering team growth. I want to thank Jody for his expertise and the important contribution he has made to the team and the company's upward trajectory. We wish him all the best for this new challenge within the Red Bull family.”
Wolff shuts down FIA rumours
Susie Wolff is known for many things such as being the managing director of F1 academy, having participated in a free practice session as a woman, and being married to Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff. However, one thing that hasn't been known is if she is going up against Mohammed Ben Sulayem for the position of FIA president. Recently, there has been a rumour that Susie Wolff was looking to challenge current FIA president Ben Sulayem for his presidency role. Ben Sulayem has been under scrutiny for new rules and regulations regarding inappropriate language and monetary fines. Her husband Toto answered the question regarding whether or not Susie would be running for F1 president. To OE24 he said, "Not that I know of. Susie is an entrepreneur. Someone started this rumor to create a fuss."
