Horner faces 'dilemma' as Red Bull struggles in Australia: 'What do you do?'
While Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson failed to set the timing sheets ablaze during either of the Friday practice sessions in Australia, Red Bull Racing's team principal Christian Horner has downplayed the Austrian team's struggles as setup dilemma looms over ahead of Sunday's race.
'Timesheet an indication, not a true representation'
As Verstappen only managed P5 and P7 respectively in both Friday sessions, and teammate Lawson failed to make the top ten on either free practice program, Horner addresses the issue with relative calm. "There's some areas we need to improve on," the Briton admits, before offering a caveat to Red Bull Racing's results in both practice sessions. "The timesheet isn't a true representation of where everyone is, it's an indication."
With the ever present threat of rain in the horizon ahead of Sunday's race, many teams are wracking their heads trying to come up with the right approach to the weekend. If you run a wet weather set up on Saturday and it fails to rain on Sunday, the result on Sunday will surely be compromised. Horner addresses Red Bull's dilemma. "With the prospect of rain, you have the dilemma on whether you focus on Sunday set-up or one-lap performance," the team principal concluded.
A reason as to why Horner may be unfazed by Red Bull's Friday form may be found in the team's chief advisor, Helmut Marko's words, where he suggested the team were running heavier on fuel and lower on power than their rivals.
