Marko contradicts Max Verstappen and wins bet against Jos!
Red Bull top advisor Helmut Marko was satisfied with Max Verstappen's result in Australia, he told De Telegraaf. Verstappen finished in P3 on Saturday, as Marko explained the gap is smaller to McLaren then what they had expected. Moreover he also won his bet against Jos Verstappen.
Marko was willing to gamble on his team and the defending world champion. "Compared to the test days in Bahrain, we have taken a big step, because back then I think the difference was at least half a second," he began.
"I have also already won 500 euros from Jos Verstappen, as he thought we would indeed concede five tenths to McLaren. And for tomorrow, I have already placed a bet at a betting shop on Max winning," Marko explained how his bets are going on.
A less confident Verstappen
Marko believes Red Bull managed to cut the gap to their Woking-based rivals, and added they were on level terms with them until Turn 11. Of course, betting on Max Verstappen also becomes easier when rain is predicted, especially after his statement victory at last year's Sao Paulo GP.
However, the Dutchman was not as enthusiastic looking at the gap, saying it was still too large, and he explained he was surprised to finish third. However, the driver was also positive with the changes made from the Friday. A day ago, he said he would be happy just to qualify to Q3 this afternoon in Australia.
