Max Verstappen wants to seize opportunity at wet Australian Grand Prix

Verstappen aims to go for the opportunity: 'Have to remain calm'

Max Verstappen hopes to spoil the McLaren's great start to the 2025 season after claiming a one-two finish in qualifying on the Saturday. With the rainy weather conditions, what are the plans of the Dutchman?

What does Verstappen expect from the Australian GP?

"It's again very different to the rest of the other days that we have here. So it's going be interesting, it's definitely going to be quite hectic I think for everyone, but hopefully also exciting at the same time," the defending world champion began.

The last time in such conditions, Verstappen managed to earn a statement victory in Brazil. Therefore, he was asked whether he could repeat that result. "It's going to be tough. I mean, every wet race is very difficult, it's very slippery, so we have to remain calm, it's just the beginning of the season, so it's important to just score points also, but when there is an opportunity, I'll of course go for it."

With difficult conditions, misunderstandings are prone to happen today. About his rivals, Verstappen said: "We have a lot of respect for each other. And of course naturally, when we go into the car, we try to beat each other and I think it’s how it should be. I think it’s a good group of people and drivers that we have at the moment in F1."

In Dutch, he then concluded: "It has been a reasonable weekend for us so far. Third place is obviously not bad and today with the rain makes it a bit more difficult for everyone, but of course I am looking forward to it."
