Lawson Red Bull debut didn't go according to plan: 'I apologised'
Liam Lawson's career with Red Bull Racing did not have the best of starts in Melbourne, Australia. After getting eliminated in Q1, the New Zealander also crashed his car. Here is how the driver reacted to his result.
In challenging conditions, in total six drivers, including Liam Lawson failed to cross the finish line at the Albert Park circuit. The New Zealander's race also finished in the wall, after never running inside the points to begin with after a pit lane start.
While Max Verstappen sounded positive having finished second just behind Lando Norris, Lawson was less positive about his Red Bull debut. "Not much [positives to take away] honestly, I'm just looking forward to going to China and resetting," the driver began to GPblog among others after the Grand Prix.
Lawson on the other hand backs himself to bounce back, and he will have the chance to do that next weekend already in Shanghai. "It's something that I've been through plenty of times before in my career and fortunately we have just a few days off. So obviously trying to do the sprint weekend is going to be tough in itself but I'm just excited to go into another weekend."
Lawson apologises for crash
When it began to rain again in Melbourne, Lawson decided to stay out on track on the dry tyres. However, it did not work out, and after he lost control, he ended up crashin into the barrier. "No, we were on the same page [with the team]. We wanted to take a risk. We shared that gamble together, but I was just apologising for putting the car on the wall."
Talking also to Viaplay, he also summed up his Red Bull debut briefly. "This weekend sucks."
