McLaren set for major internal battle: 'I've got a lot of ambition'
Oscar Piastri finished the Australian Grand Prix in P9 at the flag, however, prior to his off at turn 12 that threw his race into disarray, the McLaren driver was a contender for the win. Now looking toward the Chinese Grand Prix, Piastri reveals the team orders that instructed him to hole position have been addressed and he highlights the ambition and determination with which he faces the start of the 2025 F1 season.
Piastri satisfied with discussions regarding team orders with McLaren
At around the halfway part of the race, Piastri was gaining on teammate and then race leader, Lando Norris, when the instruction over the radio came through, ordering the Australian driver to hold position and refrain from attacking his British teammate. During the FIA Drivers' press session in China, Piastri reveals the team's already discussed the much talked about team order.
"I think I understand the circumstances and of course when you have two guys in the lead like that it's kind of natural to want to protect that but I think there's been some very good discussions about how we can, if we need to implement them in the future, how we can do a better job of that. So it's been an encouraging week and I'm satisfied with the discussions we've had," Piastri said.
Ambitious Piastri looks hopeful at his progression in F1
Speaking about his progression in F1, having looked in hindsight at his 2024 season, the Australian argues that improvements in F1, at least for himself, are not a linear thing, however, he does outline that his approach to the start of the 2025 season will help him 'get there', following his very strong form in Australia last weekend.
"I certainly went into Melbourne with a lot of determination and ambition to put my best foot forward and I felt like I delivered that. So I'm encouraged by just the feelings I had within myself from last weekend and I'm excited to try and keep that going forward. I think obviously qualifying on pole position would have helped my case on Sunday. But I think with how the rest of the weekend went, I'm happy that I'll get there," concluded Piastri.
