Charles Leclerc topped the timing sheets of the only free practice session at the Chinese Grand Prix, ahead of Charles Leclerc and teammate Oscar Piastri in P2 and P3, respectively.

For the first time in 2025, it was a sprint weekend, meaning Friday at the Shanghai International Circuit saw only one free practice session before sprint qualifying takes place later in the day.

As a result, it was a vital session for all the teams and drivers, getting some important data for the rest of the weekend. A power steering issue for the Alpine of Jack Doohan brought out the red flag with 14 minutes to go in the session, but a quick recovery meant everyone was able to get some important soft tyre running in.

With that, Norris made the most of it, setting the time to beat and going six-tenths quicker than Leclerc in the Ferrari, showing that those two teams are the ones to beat, with Piastri rounding out the top three.

Behind them was Lewis Hamilton, while George Russell took P5 with the fastest time on the medium tyres. A brilliant lap from Nico Hulkenberg in the Sauber took P6 ahead of Alex Albon in P7.

Fernando Alonso, Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the top ten.
