Horner hits back at Brown after Verstappen statement: 'Called our driver'
Christian Horner has responded to Zak Brown's statement about Max Verstappen. The McLaren CEO stated that the four-time world champion could well be driving for Mercedes in 2026. For his part, Horner states that Brown recently called one of his drivers and questions whether the American is actually as happy with his own drivers as he claims.
Horner hits back at Brown after ruling on Verstappen
"Well, you know, everyone is entitled to an opinion, and yes, we are quite happy with the group of drivers we have," Horner said as he was confronted with Brown's comments by Viaplay.
Asked why he thinks his rival made such statements, Horner replied, "I don't know. Apparently he called one of our drivers last week, so if you are so happy with your own drivers, why would you make that call? Honestly, I think it's just hot air. We don't pay too much attention to it. You stay focused, do your job, and the best way to react in this sport is on the track."
For his part, Brown was asked about his statements about Verstappen. He stated that there would also have been talks with Aston Martin, but a switch to Mercedes would be more likely according to the American. Jos Verstappen was not happy with the McLaren CEO's statements.
"I was casually asked what I think of the driver market. I think Mercedes, as they have said, has an open seat next year. I think that is clear. Toto has a great relationship with them. It's a fantastic racing team and it was actually a casual remark, that I wouldn't be surprised if he went there," Brown explained.
