Lawson struggles in Shanghai: 'Need to be starting higher up'

- Savannah Lenz
Unfortunately, Liam Lawson ended the sprint race in 14t. While he gained a few positions from where he started (19th), he ultimately knows he should be doing better. After the Sprint, Lawson talked to Viaplay about what he now needs to do moving forward.
Lawson said, "It's good, obviously, to move forward, but we need to be starting higher up, and it's really tough, honestly, with the graining."
He started the Sprint race in P19 with only 19 laps to move higher up in the rankings.
Lawson needs to qualify better
''I think everybody's struggling with the same sort of issues, but from where we are, we just spend the whole race on the gearbox of a car and kill the tyres. I think the pace is not too bad in the car if we can get some clean air." He admitted, "I need to qualify higher."
For the sprint race on Friday, Lawson qualified last, in 20th. Thanks to Nico Hulkenberg, who started from the pitlane, he moved up to 19th before the race event started. While his teammate Max Verstappen was competing for pole position, Lawson did not even get out of SQ1. He will have to improve a lot during qualifying on Saturday if Lawson wants to put in a better result for the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday.
