Cyril Abiteboul concerned about Renault's early season reliability
Cyril Abiteboul isn't best pleased with the performance of the Renault car after the two Grands Prix so far this year. He insists reliability must improve if the French team are going to hold on to the 'best of the rest' spot come December.
Renault's double DNF in Bahrain ended chances of a double points score, while in Australia Daniel Ricciardo's wing flew off, eventually forcing him to retire from his home race.
Nico Hulkenberg's six-pointer from the opening race of the season remains the only score placing them behind Haas, McLaren and Alfa Romeo in the midfield battle. Abiteboul remains cautious as the team head into the Chinese Grand Prix.
"We move onto China with caution, but also with a resolution to really get the season going. The start of the 2019 season has fallen short of our high expectations," he said.
"Our overall competitiveness is good enough for our drivers to be racing in the top 10 and closer to the top teams than last year, but we have suffered from reliability issues."
