Sergio Perez insists Racing Point still has speed to find despite new investment from the Lawrence Stroll-led consortium that saved the team from administration last season.

The team formerly known as Force India became known for performing at a level outside of their budget, scoring unlikely podiums on a fraction of the budget of the top teams in the sport and arguably becoming the pound-for-pound best in F1.

In 2019 however, despite the investment and restructuring of the team, Perez believes Racing Point still has much to do in the search for more pace.

“You have to remember that the new administration came in very late in the year, so we are a bit behind schedule ideally, but we’re playing catch up,” Perez explained to MotorsportWeek.

“I think obviously we are in the same boat as everyone in the midfield. It will be very important to see where we stand with our upgrades.

“If they work as planned, we should be making a good step, but I think everyone is in the same boat, so it is all relative and we will see where we are.”
