Charles Leclerc has admitted the start to the season for Ferrari has been far from ideal but is remaining optimistic that the team can turn their fortunes around and halt Mercedes' dominance.

Leclerc has endured a tough start to life at the Scuderia, after being denied victory in Bahrain through a short circuit and team orders hampering his chances, his season so far was summed up by retirement in Monaco. After passing Romain Grosjean on lap eight of the race, he tried the same move on Nico Hulkenberg a lap later, only to collide with the wall and pick up a puncture. After frustratingly returning to the pits he was eventually forced to retire.

Despite being eliminated in Q1 in the Principality and retiring the Monegasque is confident they can turn it around and they just have to get their heads down.

"I think that as a team we have to learn from that because getting out in Q1 has been a huge disappointment," Leclerc said in an interview on F1Only.fr.

"Unfortunately, it was not the beginning of the season that we wanted.

"We had a bit of disappointment since the beginning of the season.

"But we have to keep our heads up and continue to work as hard as we can and the results will come eventually."
