Seidl reveals McLaren began work on 2020 car "long ago"

McLaren boss Andreas Seidl has revealed the team began work on its 2020 car a "long time ago", with the switch in focus being done earlier in the season.
McLaren have enjoyed a fantastic season so far, with the team boastinf the 'Best of the Rest' status in fourth-place in the constructors' championship.
Seidl has revealed that his team have already started development on its 2020 car, with the team looking to improve even more in its bid to get back to the summit of Formula 1.
"We began work on the 2020 car long ago," the McLaren team boss said to Auto Motor und Sport. "The switch was done much earlier than last year. We are now in the process of planning when to completely stop the development of the current car and move all resources to the new car so that we can take the next step in 2020."
Seidl has also spoken about the future of McLaren's power unit supplier Renault: "It's nice to hear that Renault continues to invest. That's why we do not have a big headache about that.
"Their development over the past winter was very encouraging, and the latest updates over the past winter was very encouraging, and the latest updates always brought the promised progress."
