"There is no reason" why George Russell won't drive for Mercedes
George Russell believes that he would be ready for a seat at a top team and believes that experience is not a necessity for success in Formula 1. The Williams driver is a Mercedes junior driver and he believes that if he continues to perform then the team will give him opportunities. The Formula 1 grid has a number of young drivers at top teams and Russell will hope that he can be one of them next season.
“I don’t like to think about chance,” Russell was quoted by PlanetF1.com when asked about the probability of him joining a top team. “Mercedes have given me targets. Each time, I have met them, and they have rewarded me.
“I have faith that if I have performed to the right level, there is no reason why I will not get the opportunity. You only have to look at what Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc have done at Red Bull and Ferrari.
“You can argue about experience all you want, but sometimes it is not all you need.”
Formula 1 grids seem to be getting younger and younger and Russell will hope that a big team will want to use his youth next season. He has been driving well for Williams, consistently beating his teammate both in qualifying and during races, but will be wanting to race further up the grid in years to come.
