Bottas tops FP2 as drivers struggle to handle the strong wind
Valtteri Bottas put on an impressive performance to top the FP2 timesheet at the British Grand Prix. It seems that Mercedes are back to their dominant selves as Lewis Hamilton finished the session only a fraction behind his teammate. The strong winds caused most drivers problems with many drivers spinning and leaving the track at some point
The Finn topped the timesheet with a 1.26.732 with his teammate only 0.069 seconds behind him. However, the team was not without their issues as Bottas sat out a chunk of the session due to an issue with a spark plug.
Hamilton couldn't go any faster and had issues controlling his car in the wind.
The Ferrari's finished the practise session behind the Mercedes in 3rd and 4th. Charles Leclerc set a 1:26.929 with Sebastian Vettel finishing the session with a 1:27.180 in 4th.
Pierre Gasly had another strong session and finished 5th ahead of his teammate Max Verstappen. The Dutchman experienced some major issues with his tyres with both on the left-hand side splitting open and finished the session in 7th.
Lando Norris had another impressive run and managed to split the Red Bull's finishing in 6th. He will hope to keep this performance up through the entirety of his home Grand Prix.
Renault struggled and with 15 minutes left of the session Daniel Ricciardo's car just stopped bringing out a virtual safety car. He was forced to end the session early and will hope to find the cause of the problem before tomorrows session.
Many teams struggled to handle the wind and as they looked to find out how far they could push their cars they ended up running wide and spinning. At the end of the session tyres also became an issue.
Both Red Bull and Ferrari had issues with the rubber meaning that they couldn't push their cars but will hope to work on the issues in time for qualifying tomorrow.
