Leclerc leads Ferrari one-two in final practice session - FP3 report
Charles Leclerc topped the standings in FP3 as Ferrari secured a one-two at a rain-affected Silverstone ahead of qualifying for the British Grand Prix on Saturday.
Ferrari take surprise one-two
After a session hampered by rain, it took almost half an hour for every driver to set a time. However, once the rain subsided, Ferrari took the decision to switch to the soft tyres and it ultimately payed off as they locked out first and second in FP3.
Leclerc set a time of 1:25.905s to top the table with Vettel a mere 0.026s down on his teammate. For much of the session it looked as if Mercedes would be the dominant force but they ended up being split by Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly as they finish P3 and sixth. Hamilton was only 0.049s down on the leading Ferrari but the Scuderia made a statement of intent at Silverstone.
Pierre Gasly continued to impress at Silverstone as he beat his teammate and Bottas to finish fourth ahead of qualifying later this afternoon.
Further down the field
Renault looked strong for large periods of the rainy session, but Lando Norris beat them to best of the rest as Nico Hulkenberg and Daniel Ricciardo had to settle for eighth and ninth respectively. Alex Albon finished the top ten for Toro Rosso.
Haas had a slightly better day as Romain Grosjean had a drama free session finishing 14th, whilst his teammate finished 15th. SportPesa Racing Point continues to struggle at their home race as they only beat Williams. Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez finished in 17th and 18th.
