Former F1 driver warns Sebastain Vettel over losing Number 1 status at Ferrari
Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher believes that Sebastian Vettel's position as the number one driver at Ferrari is under threat from Charles Leclerc. The young Ferrari driver claimed another consecutive podium at the British Grand Prix whilst the German crashed into Max Verstappen, effectively ending his race.
“Two young drivers are dueling but one of the older ones cannot manage it,” former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher told Sky Deutschland.
“Sebastian has to be careful not to lose his number 1 status,” he said. “He almost has. Charles is not making it easy for him.”
Many believe that Vettel has lost his bottle and the incident with Verstappen goes some way in confirming this. The Ferrari driver immediately went over to the Red Bull and apologized after the race.
It was ironic after all the criticism Vettel has given Verstappen in the past for being reckless that this incident happened but the Dutchman showed great maturity in just accepting what happened and not getting angry.
It seems that Vettel's days in Formula 1 could be numbered but it is clear that Verstappen has a bright future in the sport.
