With qualifying out of the way and a lot of drama taking place, we provide you with the provisional starting grid for the German Grand Prix tomorrow (as it stands)! We'll update the article should any new penalties occur.

Qualifying recap

It was a Saturday full of drama. It started in Q1, when Sebastian Vettel reported a mechanical issue with his SF-90 during his out lap. When he came into the garage, the issue proved to be bad and stopped the German from running at all, meaning he wouldn't be able to defend his pole position from last season.

Ferrari were the favourites for pole position as well, so when Charles Leclerc also dropped out of qualifying in Q3 with a fuel system issue, things couldn't get worse for the Italian side. The Monegasque won't start as far back as his teammate, but they both have a massive comeback race on their hands on Sunday.

At the front, it meant free pickings for Mercedes and Red Bull Racing, who looked relatively evenly matched in terms of pace. While Max Verstappen could've grabbed his first career pole position, he made a mistake on his final flying lap at turn 8, meaning Lewis Hamilton walked away with his 87th career pole position. The Dutchman joined his rival on the front row, leaving Valtteri Bottas and Pierre Gasly in third and fourth respectively.

The midfield was unbelievably close again, with P8 and P13 in Q2 being separated by a scarcely believable 0.040 seconds. Five positions separated by that time!
