Sergio Perez holds up his hands: "I need to apologise because I made a mistake"
Sergio Perez was the first driver to be ruled out of the German Grand Prix after a crash at the start of the race. His SportPesa Racing Point teammate Lance Stroll almost clinched a podium but was caught by Sebastian Vettel in the dying stages of the race.
Perez watched his teammate scoop a big point total from the pit wall. With the new upgrades in place, Perez couldn't help feeling sorry for his mistake in the wet weather conditions.
"First of all, I need to apologise to my team because I made a mistake. I've thrown away a great opportunity today to score big points for the team. The first rule in these conditions is not to make a mistake and I did," Perez said.
"I was picking up the power and then had some aquaplaning on the rear. I lost it and just couldn't recover from it. I put my hands up for it - I'm extremely disappointed with myself, but I'm happy Lance had such a great race."
SportPesa Racing Point is now in the thick of the midfield battle. They sit just eight points away from Renault and are already ahead of Haas and Alfa Romeo in the Formula 1 world championship. Perez explains how important the points are for the team and looks forward to more upgrades in Hungary.
"We needed those points and it’s a boost for everyone. I think we've definitely taken a step forward this weekend. Now we look forward to Hungary where hopefully we can come back stronger," Perez added.
