Gasly competitor or companion? Verstappen: "A competitor"
If Max Verstappen had to choose, he would describe Pierre Gasly as a competitor and not a friend. He got asked by Ziggo Sport Formula 1 café. So far, Verstappen has managed to beat Gasly rather comfortably.
The Red Bull driver was first asked to look back at the German Grand Prix weekend. The Dutchman won his second race of the 2019 Formula 1 season, as he continues to look upwards to Mercedes, rather than down to Ferrari. Jack Plooij had a few strange questions for Verstappen.
"Certainly not a wrong weekend," Verstappen said. Plooij was curious about something: why not sing a national anthem on the podium? “I never sing the national anthem. However, I don't know ... I've always been in school in Belgium and I don't know that national anthem either," said Verstappen laughing.
“Almost everything was right that day ... a little 360. The gap (with Mercedes) is big, but I try to make sure we have a good race every weekend. But whether we participate for the championship? No."
"In the end, Pierre is a competitor, as a team you still want you to grab the points, so it is important that he also participates," the Dutchman answered.
