The lessons George Russell took from "laughable" F3 season
- Tom Mason
George Russell feels that his tough start to life in Formula 1 has comparisons to that of the contrasts of the results he picked up back in Formula 3. Russell made the move up to Williams after securing back to back titles GP3 and Formula 2 but has largely struggled so far.
The car is struggling to remain competitive and the Brit is now the only driver without a point this season after his teammate Robert Kubica secured a 10th place finish in Germany.
"My first three years in Formula 3 were very challenging and, especially the first year, character-building, to say the least," Russell told Autosport.
That bad experience helped me in the years to come because I was quite naive. I thought I was always the right one, and the team didn't know what they were talking about.
I didn't put enough effort in to try and improve the car to suit my driving style and this and the other, and I did many things wrong."
Williams has really struggled this season and has found it tough to compete with the other cars with Haas the closest to them in the constructors on 26 points.
