Hamilton tips his hat to Charles Leclerc: "There’s a lot more greatness to come"
Lewis Hamilton has heaped the praise on Charles Leclerc after the Monegasque won the Belgian Grand Prix from pole. Hamilton is expecting a lot more to come from the Ferrari man.
On an emotional weekend for the whole of motorsport, Leclerc was able to hold off Hamilton to secure his first victory in the pinnacle of motorsport. Having come close in Bahrain and Austria it will be a huge relief to the Monegasque to have finally won a Formula 1 race and with it end Ferrari's wait for a win.
In the post-race press conference Hamilton admitted it has been a long time coming for Leclerc and he's expecting big things from him.
"I think his results speak for themselves really," Hamilton said.
"It’s not easy for any driver to jump into a top team, let alone Ferrari, against a four-time World Champion, in the sport more than double… God knows how much more experience, and then to continuous from race one, out-perform, out-qualify and out-drive a four-time World Champion is not easy to do.
"He’s been really unlucky in quite a few races this year. Could easily have been the third win today.
"So, there’s a lot more greatness to come from him and I’m looking forward to seeing his growth and racing alongside him. It was fun today, trying to chase him. He was just a little bit too quick."
