Hamilton confident of beating Ferrari at Monza: If 1 team can do it it's Mercedes"
Lewis Hamilton is confident his team can find the correct improvements to beat Ferrari at their home Grand Prix. The Formula 1 world championship leader says "if one team can do it, it's Mercedes."
Just like in Belgium, the Monza circuit favors cars with better straight-line speed meaning Ferrari are expected to be the front runners again this weekend. While Mercedes managed to put more drivers on the podium it was Charles Leclerc who took home the bigger trophy.
During qualifying, the Silver Arrow was comfortably beaten by the two Ferraris who locked out the front row. As a result, Hamilton is asking for some improvements on single-lap pace for the Italian Grand Prix.
"Lots of straights at Monza, so it will be a great weekend for Ferrari again. We already saw that at Spa. As a team, we have to take really big steps to improve our top speed. If one team can do it, it's Mercedes," Lewis tells Motorsport.
"I hope we can make it an exciting race, but I expect a fast Ferrari again. Last year they were good here too and I don't think it will be any different now. We were also booed by the spectators at the time," Valtteri Bottas adds to his teammate.
