Gasly hopeful of an even better performance on Saturday
It was a strong finish to the opening day in Mexico for Toro Rosso with Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly finishing best of the rest in FP2. The latter is hopeful of putting in an even better performance over the rest of the weekend.
Gasly finished eighth in FP1 and Daniil Kvyat one place back in ninth, both drivers only beaten by Carlos Sainz from the midfield teams. They turned up the heat for FP2 as Kvyat finished in sixth with Gasly, who was as high as second at one point, one place back in seventh.
The Frenchman was very pleased with the team's showing on the opening day in Mexico but still wants to push harder in the coming sessions.
“It was a really good Friday! From the very beginning, I felt pretty comfortable in the car and I think we made quite a step from FP1 to FP2, especially on the Medium tyres where we were fast throughout the whole session," Gasly said on the Toro Rosso website.
"Unfortunately, we were not able to improve on the Softs because of small driveability issues, but we know that the pace is there and I’m confident we still have margin for improvement.
"Overall, it looks really promising here and we’ll work hard tonight to keep the pace and show an even better performance tomorrow.”
