Albon: "I have to keep improving" to get Red Bull seat
Alex Albon knows that he must keep impressing the powers that be at Aston Martin Red Bull Racing if he is to keep his seat there next season. Helmut Marko recently said that the decision between Albon and Pierre Gasly would be made soon, with many believing the Thai driver to be the favourite for the spot.
Albon has had a rollercoaster first season in F1, starting with Toro Rosso before being promoted to Red Bull Racing when the team decided Gasly wasn't performing to the standards they desired.
Since joining the senior team, Albon has been consistently scoring solid points, but is without a podium and crashes in practice and qualifying may be worrying for the team.
Albon said in Austin: “I am happy with how things are going. Whether it is good enough, we will notice that automatically. I'm not too focused on that, if I'm honest. I mainly focus on the races.
"If they are then satisfied with my results, they will of course hold me. But I have to keep improving. I also have the idea that there is more in the barrel. I will continue to push for the next few races.
“The goal is to stay with this team. Of course I would like it if I know what will happen next year, but I'm not too worried about that. In any case, there is a good chance that I will remain active in Formula 1 next year. Whether it's at Toro Rosso or at Red Bull, I'm not too worried about that."
