Schumacher would've grabbed Formula 1 chance if it was there
Mick Schumacher is set for another year with Prema Racing, but the German has admitted he might have been tempted by a move to Formula 1, but the decision to stick in F2 was logical after no chance arose.
Schumacher has one win and one podium in his debut season in F2, his only victory coming in Hungary. He sits 12th in the Drivers' Championship having also tested for Alfa Romeo during 2019.
Earlier today it was confirmed Robert Shwartzman would partner Mick in 2020 at Prema Racing but the youngster has revealed it could have been different if the opportunity came up.
“If there were a chance, I would have grabbed it. However, there was no such chance, that is pretty clear," Schumacher said when asked by GPToday.net.
"The next choice was to stay in Formula 2. That was the most logical and reliable choice I could make. Formula 2 will, of course, get different tires in 2020 and that can be positive for me, because Formula 1 will change in 2021.
"If I can make the leap then I have a small lead, but it is of course different, but in a junior class it will help me to gain more experience."
