Mick Schumacher has revealed he will be aiming to win the 2020 Formula 2 title, with a view to being called up for the 2021 Formula 1 season.
The Ferrari Academy driver is currently racing for Prema Theodore Racing in Formula 2 and in his debut season in the championship, the 20-year-old won his first race, with a maiden victory in Hungary for Prema.
Schumacher will race next season for a second successive campaign and when the young German was talking to L'Equipe, he reiterated his ambition to become an F1 driver, just like his father.
"I am sure that Formula 1 is very different to what I imagine," Schumacher said. "There will be more resources, more preparation, more technical sessions, more mechanics around me, more work. But I want to do it.
"I want to go there and that is why I work so hard every day to get there. I am still learning, but I like to learn."
Schumacher then spoke about the goal to challenge for the F2 title next season, in just his second season in the F1 feeder series and to get a call-up in the top-tier of motorsport in the following season.
"If I can make the big jump in 2021, I will have a small advantage as I will have raced for a year with 18-inch tyres," Schumacher explained.
"My goal is F1 and so I must aim to win the F2 title in 2020."
