This is why Schumacher, according to his son, remains the best F1 driver
Despite Lewis Hamilton gathering more reasons to be named as the best ever Formula 1 driver ever, Mick Schumacher believes his dad remains the real number one and always will be because Michael Schumacher was the first to achieve what he did. Schumacher won seven world championships during his career, while Hamilton moves into the 2020 F1 season needing just one more title to equal Schumacher.
Schumacher junior is working his way through the ranks. The German has completed his first season in Formula 2 as he moves closer to a drive in the premier class. The 20-year-old talks through his youth and how he decided to follow in his father's footsteps.
"There was no specific moment that I decided to follow in my father's footsteps. I have been karting since I was two years old, riding my motorcycle since I was four. I have seen my participation since I was born and I actually saw nothing else. I love this sport, as well as driving and winning," Schumacher said in a conversation with Gazzetta.
The Formula 2 driver goes on to talk about his dad. He insists the Ferrari legend will always be the greatest person to drive a Formula 1 car.
“He [Michael Schumacher] is and will always be the best driver. He will always remain the best because he is the first to achieve that. He will always be my hero, because he is my father and because he is a legend in the sport that I love a lot," Schumacher added.
