Lewis Hamilton pressures Mercedes to remove leather from their street cars
Lewis Hamilton is making the most of the platform that he has and has tried to use his influence to get rid of the leather interiors of Mercedes' road cars. The six-time world champion has contacted the CEO of the company and it will be interesting to see if anything is done.
“I grew up like everyone else thinking dairy and meat was good for you,” Hamilton said to The Edge. “I thought I was living healthily and was doing right. Then I met a few new people who were vegans, and they started showing me some of the things happening in our world that I was completely oblivious to. It freaked me out. I started to read about it and realised that what I was taught to believe was healthy, was not."
Hamilton now not only doesn't eat meat products but also doesn't want them used on the interiors of cars.
"Mercedes-Benz is a huge organization, and I have got a phone call with the CEO later today to discuss how we can work on getting rid of all the leather supplied to the cars.
"I want to be part of a system that is going to help heal the world and do something positive for the future."
Hamilton has a big influence but this goal may be too big for him to achieve. It will be interesting to see if it gains traction and if there is an appetite for it out in the public.
