Horner reflects on Gasly's and Albon's seasons
Red Bull's driver setup in 2019 had plenty of twists and turns as Pierre Gasly started for the team alongside Max Verstappen but Alex Albon finished it. Christian Horner has been reflecting on both their seasons.
Gasly started 2019 at Red Bull having been promoted from Toro Rosso following the departure of Daniel Ricciardo. However, it got off to a poor start as he missed out on the points in Melbourne.
After the summer break, he was dropped to Toro Rosso but Horner feels the Frenchman embraced the change.
“The good thing for Pierre was that he embraced the move to Toro Rosso in a positive light," Horner said in his end of season review.
"He still had a drive in Formula One, he hadn’t been released from the Red Bull programme and he responded very well to that. It was the right thing to do as both drivers adapted very well.”
The man who replaced him at Red Bull was Alex Albon. The Thai driver never finished higher than fourth but will race for Red Bull next season. Horner highlighted the improvements Albon made race by race.
“You’ve seen that at every race Alex has got better and better. He was unlucky in Brazil, but I think he’s doing brilliantly well considering it’s his first year," he added.
