Jamie Chadwick: "I look forward to continuing to work with Williams this year!”
Williams have announced that Jamie Chadwick will remain part of their driving academy for the 2020 season. The 21-year-old won the W Series last season and has had more success, driving in a class winning team at the Nürburgring 24 Hour. Chadwick will hope to continue getting race experience under her belt as she looks to break into Formula 1.
Chadwick's role as a Development Driver will see her spend and increased amount of time on the simulator programme. In an official press release it was stated that she will attend several Grands Prix this year, supporting the team in media and marketing activities.
“It has been a fantastic opportunity working with the team in my role as Development Driver. The time spent in the simulator has been invaluable and I have enjoyed every moment, immersing myself within the team. I look forward to continuing to work with Williams this year!” Chadwick said about the opportunity to remain part of the team.
Team boss Claire Williams believes that this is the sort of boost both her team and the sport needs as they look to increase the diversity in F1.
“I am delighted to confirm that Jamie Chadwick will continue her work in the Williams Racing Driver Academy this year. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Jamie develop, and excel, both with the team and her time racing in W Series. Jamie has done an excellent job promoting women in motorsport and we are extremely proud of the work she has done,” Williams sad.
It will be interesting to see how long it is before a female racer takes part in Formula 1 again. Chadwick seems to be the most likely individual to do it and will continue working hard at Williams in order to make her dreams come true.
