Lewis Hamilton has said that he will be “on another level” for 2020 as he prepares for a Formula 1 season that could see him surpass Michael Schumacher’s total wins and match his number of World Championships.

The records that Schumacher set during the peak of his career were thought to be completely out of reach for a long time after compiling 91 race wins and seven World Championships.

But Hamilton wrapped up a sixth World Championship in 2019 to put him just one behind and has amassed 84 wins, and with 22 races on the calendar this year we could see the Briton surpass the German.

The 35-year old has expressed wanting to become “a machine” this year with the likes of Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel, and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen all keen on a title this year.

Hamilton said in an Instagram post: “I never could have even dreamed to own a home like the one I do now.

“I thank God everyday for giving me a family that worked so hard to give me the chance to make something of myself.

“And to own a home that I love so much, get to create so many wonderful memories brings me more happiness than I ever thought I could deserve.

“I am at peace when I’m here, can focus and build my mind and body so that I can come back year on year.

“I’m going to be a machine this year, on another level than ever before!

“Spread love and positivity everywhere we go.”

Will Hamilton go on to break Schumachers records throughout the rest of his F1 career?
