Seidl reflects on the year McLaren regained their "racing spirit"
2019 was a great year for McLaren as they bounced back to finish best of the rest. Andreas Seidl has been reflecting on their season and admitted the positive was definitely seeing the team regain their "racing spirit".
Following the departures of Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne, McLaren brought in Carlos Sainz and rookie Lando Norris to replace them. The move paid off and they finished fourth in the Constructors' Championship and Sainz's form was rewarded by a podium finish at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
After a tough spell in Formula 1, it appears McLaren are on their way back.
When asked what positives can he take from the season Seidl told Auto Motor und Sport: "That McLaren has regained his racing spirit, which is the prerequisite for being successful in motorsport.
"With the team's successful history, it was no wonder that it has been lost to some extent after the losing streak in the past four or five years."
Seidl went on to explain what was key to their change in fortunes, adding: "Success in motorsport is always a team effort and depends on the individual.
"I try to create a climate in which we find the right place for everyone in the team, where they can apply their talents, where everyone feels valued and comes to work with joy, with the aim of achieving something together."
