Report: Robert Kubica on top at the end of day one of the second test
Day one of the second test is complete! It was a fairly uneventful day of testing with most teams clocking up significant laps and getting the necessary data from their cars. However, the session ended five minutes early thanks to a red flag after Max Verstappen spun and stalled.
Robert Kubica topped the timesheet for Alfa Romeo with a 1m16.942s, a time that was set in the morning as was not beaten by anyone in the afternoon session.
Things didn't go well for Red Bull Racing in the morning as Alex Albon drove just one installation lap around the circuit, and has spent most of the rest of the morning in the garage due to a suspension issue.
Max Verstappen was able to do better in the afternoon and finished the day second fastest with a 1m17.347s. The Red Bull looked like it was stuck to the track for most of the session and a little spin was the only blemish on the Dutchman's performance.
Alpha Tauri, also had issues in the moring and were kept in the garage thanks to a broken pipe. Gasly did well and clocked a 1m17.540s whilst Kvyat was down on pace and ended the day with a 1m18.758s.
Williams had their fair share of issues and Nicholas Latifi's engine failure forced the red flag but George Russell came into the car in the afternoon and clocked up some good mileage.
Overall the session was used by teams to try some longer runs on the C2 tyre. Most teams looked reliable and they will now digest the data they have collected and will get ready to go again tomorrow.
