Alex Albon wants "to be a Formula One World Champion"
Alex Albon has a goal to become Formula 1 world champion. The Red Bull Racing driver is going into his second Formula 1 season and it has been a crazy 12 months for the young British-Thai racer.
Going into the 2019 season, nobody expected Albon to be given an opportunity in Formula 1. After a good year in Formula 2, it looked like Albon would go to Formula E but suddenly an opportunity came up due to Daniel Ricciardo's shock exit from Red Bull Racing.
Albon came into Toro Rosso to replace Pierre Gasly who was called up to the bigger team. However, it didn't take long for Albon to be promoted to Red Bull and it has been a crazy 12 months for him.
This can be seen just in the rise in Instagram followers the driver has received.
"Ooft, 360,000? Around there? This time last year, I had about 4,000 followers!" Albon said.
It has been a whirlwind year but Albon has stayed humble and is quietly working towards his goal.
"To be a Formula One World Champion," Albon said when he was asked what he wants to achieve from the sport. "My first goal was to get into F1 and now I have achieved that it’s shifted a little bit. Becoming World Champion is not an easy goal at all, I realise it’s going to take a lot to get there. That will always be the goal, until the day I die or until I’m out of F1."
To achieve this goal Albon will hope for a successful 2020 and has broken the season ahead down into smaller goals.
"I want to be fighting at the front. I know the car and Max are going to be strong. There is a deficit to the fastest and very best guys and I want to close that gap which won’t be easy, but with a year under my belt I don’t see why I can’t do it."
Albon is one of the sport's nice guys and many would love to see him go on and have a successful year and accomplish his goals.
