Button to DTM? "I don't think he's ready"
- GPblog.com
Since Jenson Button ''took his sabbatical'' as a Formula 1 driver, he has participated in a number of other racing series, but focuses mainly on his family. Gerhard Berger has tried to persuade him to race in DTM, but doesn't know if the world champion is ready for that.
Officially Jenson Button is still on a sabbatical when it comes to Formula 1, but if we look at Mika Hakkinen we know what that actually means. Moreover, the sympathetic Brit can in theory no longer count on a seat at McLaren, now that they are both kept warm by two young, high-profile drivers.
Still, there are plenty of other race series that are eager to put the name Button on their bill, including DTM. "I talked to Jenson in Hockenheim and he said he wanted to race in DTM", says Gerhard Berger, the boss of the sport, to Motorsport-Total.com.
Heavy spot of the highest level
The Austrian only questions the devotion of the Briton. "I felt the conversation that followed that he would like to stay in LA." According to Berger the sport will probably only require him to leave the American city.
"DTM is a tough sport and absolutely of the highest level. To be successful you have to live in Europe and have contact with the team every day. I don't know if he's ready for that. I like him very much, but I think he is now in a phase of his life in which you develop other interests", explains the former Formula 1 driver.
