Competition for Verstappen and Norris? Russell's considering sim racing
- GPblog.com
With the lack of real races Max Verstappen and Lando Norris regularly get behind the wheel to take part in digital races. Famous other names also take part from time to time, including former F1 driver Johnny Herbert. He recently entertained the viewers by cutting off the first corner and going straight to the head, a moment that has also been seen by George Russell.
Simracing
The Williams Formula 1 driver now has more time and is considering sim racing, also because he watched the digital race as mentioned. Something he has always held back before, he says in the Vodcast of Sky Sports. This is because the young Briton has spent a lot of time in a real simulator in the past and didn't feel like driving further at home afterwards.
"I’ve never been into esports, if I’d be honest. I’ve seen so much simulator stuff when I was at Mercedes. It were crazy long days, and the last thing I wanted to come home and jump on the simulator again." But times have changed, especially now that he's no longer pertinent in driving simulators with a team.
"But now, I’m definitely tempted, I’ve just finally got a sim delivered end of last week so I just started practicing a little bit. Still pretty rubbish at the moment, but definitely, definitely tempted."
Now that Russell's getting in, the question is whether he'll get the hang of it. If so, then it's not a bad idea to welcome him in digital races where other F1 drivers will participate.
