Todt has closed 'Ferrari gate': ''Haven't heard from them''
- GPblog.com
Before the coronavirus completely flattened the Formula 1 season, F1 was under the spell of the secret agreement between the FIA and Ferrari. Jean Todt is finally opening up, although it's not the whole story.
''If you'd ask me, I'd love to give you all the details of that deal, but Ferrari is against it so we'll get a penalty if I tell. Of course we wouldn't have been able to say anything, but for us it felt like we should let everyone know. Honesty is really better in that respect", says Todt to Motorsport.com.
Todt has already finished it
The top man of the FIA is therefore still behind the decision to bring it out, but cannot reveal any further details. ''It's a combination of different technical issues and our technicians can't prove 100 percent that Ferrari was illegal. This makes things more difficult'', says Todt, who has got many teams on his roof.
Indeed, seven of the other nine teams wrote a letter to the FIA and demanded openness. ''I've already spoken one-on-one with some of them and that's why Mercedes has already withdrawn. Since then I haven't heard anything from the teams except what appears in the media from time to time. The teams would like to understand the data, but Ferrari does not allow that'', concludes Todt.
