Will Imola return to F1? "A race after Monza could even save money''
- GPblog.com
On Wednesday it was already announced that Imola will make itself available for a return to the circuit now that Formula 1 needs help, but that comes at a price, because Imola doesn't want to pay a penny to F1.
The sun rises for nothing
On Tuesday the president of Imola already announced that the circuit is opening up for a new Grand Prix. Now that Formula 1 badly needs the races in Europe, it could just be an option to return to Imola. However, in an interview with Motorsport.com Selvatica Estense now announces that there are some demands for the return.
''This situation is an opportunity for us to apply again for a Grand Prix. Formula 1 needs races to fulfill the contract with the FIA and why not race at Imola. Of course the government must allow such a race'', says the president of the circuit.
Back-to-back with Monza
''We offer the job for free and then we'll talk about the costs we incur. Without visitors it is a lot easier, because then you don't have to provide all those facilities and the organization is a lot cheaper. But we're not going to pay a registration fee for it.''
Estense already had a place on the calendar in his mind. ''It might be easy to drive the race after the Grand Prix at the Monza circuit, so that teams can also save money. Last year we even had nice weather in October and November, so that shouldn't be the problem. I think everyone likes to go back to Imola and of course we love it'', concludes Estense.
