Luckily the drivers now have a lot of free time to train and get ready for what's to come. Valtteri Bottas warns friend, enemy and fan that good preparation is important. 2020 will be flat gas according to the Finnish Mercedes driver.
Bottas became number two in the championship in 2019. Like the other drivers, he hasn't been allowed to race in his F1 car since December 1st. Now that there is certainty that the season is going to start again, the worries are coming up as well. The drivers haven't raced for seven months at the start in Austria and the car hasn't been tested for four months.
During a video interview with Mercedes Valtteri Bottas discusses the run-up to the start of the season: "Even in F1 there are strange circumstances. For us it is a rare opportunity to use this period to improve our condition and strengthen our mental condition".
"I really want to get the most out of it and be as strong as ever. Every driver will try the same thing."
Pedestal gas in 2020
Because the drivers will be more focused and faster than ever, 2020 could be an explosive season. Bottas: "I don't remember staying in one place for so long without travelling. When things get back to normal, everyone will be ready full throttle. So you really need that extra power."
It will be strange to race without an audience, the Finn thinks. Bottas concludes with the hope: "If we are going to race without fans I hope at least that everyone can just watch te races on television. So that broadcast will not be limited for some."
