It's official:Carlos Sainz will be a Ferrari driver from 2021. The Spaniard has been associated with the seat since the announced departure of Sebastian Vettel and that rumor has now been confirmed.

Always constant

Sainz joined the Toro Rosso team in 2015 together with Max Verstappen in Formula 1. In addition to Verstappen, Sainz was able to maintain a constant performance with an outperformance to his seventh place in America, but he couldn't match the heights of Verstappen who finished fourth twice. It was therefore Verstappen who got the chance at Red Bull Racing and not Sainz.

In the two years that followed at Toro Rosso, Sainz will always be in charge of his teammates Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly and will continue what he's good at: Constant performance. It gave him a move to Renault by the end of 2017 and finish that season ninth in the standings. At Renault in 2018 he scored one point less (53) and also finished one place down the rankings.

Sainz climbs up

At Renault Sainz was just short of the constant Nico Hulkenberg, but in the separate rental situation the Spaniard manages to impress and drove himself into the spotlight as the replacement for his youth idol Fernando Alonso. McLaren picked him up and that paid off with a podium in Brazil and sixth place in the championship.

In addition to Charles Leclerc, Ferrari is looking for a driver who can play the role of second violin, but is also good enough to help the team win the world title. Sainz seems to be the perfect interpretation, but has to prove it first. However, in 2020 he will finish the season at McLaren before he really makes the switch.
