'Alonso might already get a seat at Renault this season'
- GPblog.com
Two years ago it seemed like a great stunt for Renault to take Daniel Ricciardo away from Red Bull Racing. The fact that their collaboration has already failed within two years seems to indicate that his arrival at the time would have been prompted too much by emotions. In any case, that opinion was shared in the Formula 1 Café on Ziggo Sport.
Renault team boss was pretty critical of Ricciardo last week and felt that mutual trust was lacking. According to Ziggo Sport reporter Jack Plooij Abiteboul lets himself be led too much by emotion. For example, he had already let tensions run high with Red Bull Racing and Christian Horner.
Plooij even suspects that Abiteboul only hijacked the Australian at the time, because Red Bull ended the collaboration with the manufacturer and opted for Honda. Now the collaboration with Ricciardo seems to end in a similar way. Under those circumstances, will Ricciardo still finish the season?
"That's a very good question, maybe Alonso will get in earlier", Plooij says. "I think that can happen just like that. What's this guy going to do for the rest of the year?" According to Robert Doornbos, that's an exaggeration. He thinks there's a good chance that the Spaniard will join Renault again, but that won't be until next season.
